The Mayes Center has moved back near it's former
location. It is now in Rosenau Hall, Room 230, in the UNC
Gillings School of Global Public Health, on the campus of the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since the summer of
2005, the part of Rosenau Hall housing the Mayes Center has undergone
renovations and has recently reopened. Renovations are still
going on in Rosenau Hall's north wing. Please see the updated
directions to the newly renovated Mayes Center below.
The Gillings School of Global Public Health includes the new MHRC, which faces South
Columbia St., Rosenau Hall, also facing South Columbia St., and the McGavran-Greenberg
Bldg., which faces Pittsboro St.
If you are planning a trip to UNC you may first wish to access the Visitors’ Center Web site.
Parking—Note: The closest visitor parking to the Gillings School of
Global Public Health is a 5–10 minute walk from the Hooker Research Center.
Parking fees are charged on an hourly basis—a full day at $0.75/hour
is approximately $6.00.

From the Raleigh-Durham Airport (RDU) and the Research Triangle
Park (RTP) via I-40 West
1) From RDU and RTP, take I-40 West to Chapel Hill, Exit 273-B, NC 54
West;
2) Take NC 54 West to Chapel Hill. (At the 54 Business/Bypass split, NC
54 West becomes Raleigh Road.);
3) Continue on Bus. NC 54 West/Raleigh Rd. onto the UNC-CH campus. (At
the top of the hill, after you cross the intersection of Raleigh Rd. and
Country Club Rd. onto the campus, Raleigh Road changes names to South
Rd.);
4) Follow South Rd. through campus, crossing S. Columbia St.—one-way
going to the right—to the next stoplight, Pittsboro St.—one-way
to the left;
5) Turn left onto Pittsboro St., first passing on your left the Tate-Turner-Kuralt
Bldg., then McGavran-Greenberg Hall. Be ready to bear left—there’s
a stoplight—and to recross S. Columbia St. onto Manning Drive;
6) Once on Manning Dr., go to the second stoplight—East Dr.—and
make a right turn onto East Dr.;
7) The entrance to visitor parking, the Dogwood Deck, will be on your
right—not free; $0.75/hour;
8) Once you’ve parked, walk back to and cross Manning Dr.; turn left
and follow Manning Dr. back to S. Columbia St.;
9) Cross S. Columbia St. and turn right; walk up the hill.
Rosenau Hall is in front of the stop light at the top of the hill,
across from the Health Sciences Library.
10) Go up the steps and in the front door of Rosenau Hall. The
handicapped ramp is located on the left side of the building.
11) Once through the front door of Rosenau Hall, you will see the elevators to the right of the stairwell.
12) Take the elevator, or the stairs, to the second (2nd) floor.
13a) If you take the elevator, once on the 2nd floor, turn right
and the Mayes Center will be the first door on the left, room 230.
13b) If you take the stairway, once you're on the 2nd floor, make
a U-Turn to the left, go past the elevators and the Mayes Center is the
first door on the left, room 230.
From West of Chapel Hill via NC 54 East
1) Follow NC 54 East to Carrboro and take the NC 54 Bypass East;
2) Watch for & take the Columbia St./US 15-501 South exit;
3) At the top of the ramp, turn left onto S. Columbia St.;
4) Follow S. Columbia St. to Manning Drive—stay to the right as you
go down the hill into the campus. The road will widen into multiple lanes
and become one-way;
5) At Manning Dr., turn right and go to the second stoplight, East Dr.;
6) Make a right turn onto East Dr.;
7) The entrance to visitor parking, the Dogwood Deck, will be on your
right—not free; $0.75/hour;
8) Once you’ve parked, walk back to and cross Manning Dr.; turn left
and follow Manning Dr. back to S. Columbia St.;
