Dedicated in October 1993, the Mayes Telecommunications Center can
communicate via interactive videoconferencing with other sites at the more than one
hundred North Carolina hospitals, Area Health Education Centers, universities,
community colleges, and local health departments. The Center can accommodate up
to 29 participants and is located in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Mayes Center is the hub of the Public Health Training and Information
Network (PHTIN). The Department of Health and Human Services, five local
health departments (Catawba County, Cumberland County, Jackson County,
PPCC District, and Wilson County), and the UNC-CH Gillings School of Global Public Health
comprise the PHTIN. Each site on the PHTIN has a fully equipped video
communications classroom for live, two-way interactive programming.
In addition to videoconferencing services the Mayes Telecommunications Center
provides audio and webcast services to the faculty and staff within the Gillings School of
Global Public Health.
